Indianola University

Whether you are considering pursuing public office, wanting to serve on a commission, or just wanting to increase your civic knowledge, Indianola University will provide you with the tools and information you need to increase your civic involvement. This free 8-week course is designed to provide participants with information on how their local government works. Apply today to learn more about your local government!

The University will include group walking tours of city facilities for a behind-the-scenes look at the inner-workings of each department. City department directors and staff will also give presentations on such topics as budgets, capital improvement plans, and other long-term goals. Participants will walk away with a wealth of knowledge on how the City of Indianola runs and operates.

Classes are held weekly from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM on Thursday evenings for 8 weeks beginning on July 6. Participants who have attended at least 90% of the sessions will be recognized as Indianola University Graduates at the September 5, 2023, City Council meeting.

We encourage anyone applying to be available to attend all scheduled classes in order to get the most out of the University. Applicants should be able to participate in classroom-style sessions with guided tours and activities (reasonable accommodations are available upon request), be able to commit to attend the eight classes for two hours each week, and reside within Indianola city limits. Twelve applicants will be invited to participate in the class, and applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Application deadline is Thursday, June 29, 2023.
