City Square Master Plan

Background

In 2018, the City, along with the Indianola Chamber of Commerce and Warren County Economic Development Corporation (WCEDC) partnered with the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) to conduct an assessment of the Downtown Square. The Downtown Assessment Visit Report provided recommendation to engage in a streetscape design process.

The City Square Master Plan provides an opportunity to create unifying and sustainable streetscape enhancements, as well as improving downtown infrastructure to support downtown economic activity for years to come.

2019 APA-Iowa Chapter Award

in 2019, the City Square Master Plan was selected for recognition of the Urban Design Award. This award honors efforts to create a sense of place, whether a street, public space, neighborhood, or campus effort. Criteria includes originality and innovation, compatibility, effectiveness and results, and public engagement.
