Development Code Update

In May 2020, the City Council adopted Elevate Indianola, the City's updated Comprehensive Plan.  Elevate Indianola can be viewed here.  Chapter 9 of the Comprehensive Plan discusses implementation, and includes 164 implementation actions.  As stated, implementation of the Comprehensive Plan should occur gradually over a 20-year timeframe. It will require multiple resources in terms of people, funding, and time. It should be integral to the daily operations of the city, and the community should be aware of its vision and goals.

To assist in implementing various measures, the City is working on a two phase approach to updating various development regulations, including the City’s Zoning Regulations (Chapter 165), Site Plan (Chapter 166), Sign Code (Chapter 167), Subdivision Regulations (Chapter 170), and Plantings in Parking, or street trees (Chapter 141).  Phase One, scheduled to be completed in Fiscal Year 21, includes the updating of the City's Zoning and Site Plan Code.  Phase Two, scheduled to be completed in Fiscal Year 22, includes the updating of the City's Sign, Subdivision, and Plantings in Parking Code.
