Traffic Signal Timing Project & Iowa Avenue

This notice is to inform residents that the City of Indianola has retained Sternquist Construction to improve the synchronization of all the traffic signals and to reconstruct the pavement on Iowa Avenue, from 1st Street to Jefferson Way. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 8, 2020. The construction contract for this project has a completion date of July 17, 2020. A portion of Iowa Avenue, from 1st Street to Jefferson Way, will be closed to traffic during this construction phase. Expect some traffic delays due to road closures during construction. Detour signs will be posted. The construction contractor will maintain temporary trash services and temporary mailboxes for property owners directly impacted by this project.

This project will improve the synchronization of all the traffic signals on Jefferson Way (US highway 65/69) and 2nd Ave (IA 92). This will help to reduce delays, improve traffic flow, and help the environment by reducing emissions from idling. As part of this project, which is being partially funded by Iowa DOT Iowa Clean Air Attainment Program, the pavement on Iowa Avenue from 1st Street to Jefferson Way, will also be replaced.

If you have any questions or concerns during construction, please contact the construction contractor, Brad Freeman with Sternquist, at (515) 961-8127 or the construction inspector, Matt Allender with Snyder & Associates, at (515) 964-2020. For general project information, please contact the City’s Public Works Director, Akhilesh Pal, at (515) 961‐9415 or by email at apal@indianolaiowa.gov.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to improve the City of Indianola!
