  2. Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad Trip for Adults 50+

    June 20, 2019, 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM @ Depart & return to the Indianola Activity Center

    All aboard as we travel to Boone for a spectacular excursion on the historic Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad! We’ll start the day with an early lunch at the popular Van Hemert’s Dutch Oven Bakery, a full-line scratch bakery offering a variety of delicious pastries and baked goods as well as a wonderful menu of signature sandwiches, salads and soups. Then it’s all aboard for a ride on the Fraser Train for a round way trip from Boone to the old coal mining town of Fraser. We’ll enjoy spectacular scenery from the comfort of the climate controlled coach, including an incredible view as we cross the Bass Point Creek High Bridge, which at 156 feet tall is the tallest singletrack interurban railroad bridge in the United States. We’ll also have time to explore the many displays and railroad memorabilia in the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum. Your registration includes transportation, a train ticket and admission to the museum. Please bring spending money for lunch.

    Join local police officers and learn what it’s like to work in law enforcement. See all the equipment used by officers, including patrol cars, computers, tasers, and more. Learn what it’s like to go on patrol. Help detectives solve crime using fingerprinting and footprint casting. Learn the importance of saying NO to drugs from a Drug Task Force Officer, join in a foot chase, learn basic defensive tactics and how to deal with bullies. Every student will receive a t-shirt, signed certificate, a CD of the week’s events and will participate in the academy graduation. Snacks will also be provided each day.

    Have you ever wanted to learn to shoot like Robin Hood? This is your chance! For all skill levels – beginners welcome! Spend time with a certified instructor learning about safety, parts of the bow, and how to shoot. You’ll have plenty of practice time on our archery range, learning how to shoot a bullseye. On the last day we’ll test your skills with archery games! New evening hours!
