2014 Think Spring! Garden Seminar

Saturday, February 22  *  9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Kent Campus Center, Simpson College
Indianola, Iowa

Join the Warren County Master Gardeners and Indianola Parks & Recreation for a day filled with inspiring speakers, door prizes, our garden marketplace and a delicious catered lunch!

Speakers:

An Introduction to Proven Winners -
Sandy Wentworth

Looking for plants you can trust to create a beautiful, easy-to-maintain garden? Proven Winners®  searches the world to find and select plants which are clearly superior to others of their type. The plants are easy to grow and care for, covered with blooms, bright and colorful and disease free. We’ll also get a peek at some of the new introductions for spring.

Treescaping: Why Every Garden Deserves Some Arboreal Affection - Luke Miller
Forget the bad PR you’ve heard about storm cleanup and leaf raking. Trees are the unsung heroes of our world. We’ll look at their best landscape uses - and highlight some great candidates for your yard.

Tablescapes - Robyn Hofland
Learn how to create and maintain everything from terrariums, glass dish container gardens, hypertufa trough creations and miniature gardens.

From Compost to Herbs to Table -
Co-Farm Manager Mosa Shayan  and Chef Katie Routh of the Wallace Centers of Iowa

Mosa will introduce composting, how it works for the soil and plants, and how to do it on a small or large scale.    He will share how it benefits perennials such as herbs.  Chef Katie will share her favorite herbs and tips about using these to add flavor and nutrients to any meal.
