The largest park in our system, Pickard Park offers a venue for many
outdoor recreational activities. The shelter boasts a scenic view of
the Iowa countryside. Formerly a farm, the park lies on the eastern
edge of Indianola and is the eastern terminus of the McVay / Summerset
Trail.
The park hosts cross country meets, youth
and adult softball tournaments and disc golf tournaments including an
annual National Tour featuring top professional and amateur disc
golfers.
Acquired from the Clarence Pickard family in 1976, the rolling hillsides
include some of the first terraces and water diversion projects done by
the Soil Conservation Service in Warren County.
