April 27, 2020 - Reopening of Some Businesses

Governor Kim Reynolds has announced that, on May 1, 2020, the following types of Warren County businesses may reopen at 50% capacity (amongst other restrictions that may be viewed in the proclamation):

  • Restaurants
  • Fitness Centers
  • Other retail establishments that were previously ordered to be closed
  • Spiritual and religious gatherings (not subject to 50% capacity)

Please note that occupant load (capacity) is determined by the current building and fire codes adopted by the City of Indianola, and not necessarily by the number of seats.  Your business occupant load shall be posted in a conspicuous place, near the main exit or exit access doorway from the room or space. If you are unsure of what the legal occupant load is for a business, please have the floor area (in square feet) of your business, and call the Community Development Department at (515) 961-9430.

The following types of businesses shall remain closed:

  • Bars (establishments where customers may purchase alcohol, but the serving of food is incidental to the consumption of alcohol and limited to the reheating of commercially prepared foods)
  • Theaters
  • Social and fraternal clubs (including golf course clubhouses)
  • Senior citizen centers and adult daycares
  • Playgrounds (including skateparks)
  • Campgrounds
  • Swimming pools
  • Salons/barbershops
  • Medical spas
  • Tattoo establishments
  • Tanning facilities
  • Massage therapy establishments
