Indianola City Council 2023 Election Results

UPDATED POST (NOVEMBER 8, 2023)

City and school elections throughout the state of Iowa were held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. In the City of Indianola, three seats were open with one contested race in Ward 1.

Unofficial election results showed the following:

Ward 1

  • Mellisa Sones: 278 votes
  • John Parker Jr. (incumbent): 245
  • Write-in: 1

Ward 3

  • Steve Armstrong: 344
  • Write-in: 12

At-Large

  • Josh Rabe (incumbent): 1,603
  • Write-in: 57

View City of Indianola & Warren County Election Results

Results are unofficial until certified by the Warren County Board of Supervisors. Newly-elected Indianola City Council members will take office in January 2024.

City elections will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.mon Election Day.

This year's candidates for Indianola City Council include only one contested race in Ward 1:

Ward 1

John Parker Jr. (incumbent)
Mellisa Sones

Ward 3

Steve Armstrong

At-Large

Josh Rabe (incumbent)

Where To Vote
There are several polling locations in Indianola. To find which location you should go to vote on Election Day, please visit the Secretary of State's website and follow the prompts. You can also visit the City's Voter Registration webpage to access additional information about precincts, wards and more.

Voter Registration
Please visit the Secretary of State's website to ensure you are registered to vote in the upcoming election.

Voting Early
Indianola residents can vote early in all elections by requesting, completing and returning an absentee ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Monday, October 23, 2023. Absentee ballots must be returned by Election Day. To learn more about absentee ballots and to request a ballot, please visit the Warren County Auditor's website.

Upcoming Event: Indianola City Council Candidate Forum
Hosted by the Indianola Independent Advocate, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the John C. Culver Public Policy Center at Simpson College, candidates for Indianola City Council will participate in a public forum. It will also broadcast live on KNIA 94.3 FM.

  • DATE: Tuesday, October 24, 2023
  • TIME: 6:00-7:00 P.M.
  • LOCATION: Kent Campus Center – Simpson College (701 N C Street)
    Please note that the forum will be held on the second floor.
