  1. Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

    Are you interested in becoming a lifeguard and joining the team at Indianola Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center? If so, you will need to become certified as a lifeguard by taking this class offered by the Indianola YMCA. Pre-requisite skills include a 300 yard swim, treading water for 2 minutes with legs only, and a timed retrieval of a brick from the deep end. You are also required to present a printed or electronic certificate of completion from the online portion of the class to be admitted on the first day. $115 of the class fee will be refunded upon successful completion of one season of employment at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center.

    Join Maria Cochran, a Des Moines Art Center Docent, for a virtual presentation that will explore the art of photography. In a series of three scheduled Zoom calls, Maria will share an array of thought provoking photographs with plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions. Sign up for one, two, or all three of the sessions. All presentations are offered free of charge by the Des Moines Art Center. Session 3: Women Photographers at the Des Moines Art Center March 18, 1:00-1:45pm Discover female photographers exhibited at the Des Moines Art Center: Dorothea Lange, Sally Mann, Cindy Sherman, and Laurel Nakadate.
