Steve Richardson

Steve is a lifelong resident of Indianola, a graduate of Indianola High School and Simpson College. He was a high school teacher and coach for 23 years in Iowa, moving from teaching to construction sales in 2000. His role was to work primarily with architects and code officials in designing projects. Steve retired from that career in May 2020.

Steve has also been involved in City and State government in the past. From 1990-1996, he served on the City Council and again from 2006-2010. He also served three terms in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1997-2002.

Steve comes by his interest in serving Indianola naturally. His father, Elmer, was a combat wounded veteran and POW in WWII. His Mother, Irene, was Indianola’s first woman President of the Indianola Chamber of Commerce and served three terms as Indianola’s first woman Mayor.

His parents taught him early that service to the community is important. Not only serving but listening to those that one serves. His mother had a slogan that he understood very early as he grew up.  It was “Good government is everyone’s business”. She worked hard to include all residents in city government. Steve has worked to do that in the past and he will continue to do it to the best of his ability.

Steve and his wife Deb have seven children and nine grandchildren.

Term expires 12-31-2026
