Snow Emergency Parking Ban Starts 6 P.M. Friday, November 28; Winter Storm Warning Issued

City Ordinance 69.10 prohibits parking on any public street or alley during a Snow Emergency Parking Ban. Due to two or more inches predicted by the National Weather Service, the ban will be in effect beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, November 28.

The ban remains in effect for 48 hours after the snow has stopped falling or until the streets are clear. Vehicles may not be parked on the street during this time. Once the streets are cleared you may resume parking on the street.

Winter Storm Warning Issued

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for much of central Iowa, including Indianola, from 6 p.m. Friday, November 28, to 6 a.m. Sunday, November 30. According to the National Weather Service - Des Moines, heavy snow is expected, with total snow accumulations between 10 to 15 inches.

Travel will be very difficult to impossible, and the hazardous conditions are expected to impact post-Thanksgiving travel, the NWS said.

Avoid travel if possible. If you must travel, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the one ahead, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and use extra caution on hills and when turning. Ensure your vehicle is winterized and in good working condition.
