The City of Indianola is gearing up to welcome thousands of cyclists as it proudly serves as a pass-through town for the 51st Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI), as the full route was revealed earlier today, Thursday, April 4, 2024, by RAGBRAI organizers.
Indianola will be the pass-through town on Wednesday, July 24, when RAGBRAI riders pedal the 74-mile journey from Winterset to Knoxville on the fourth day of the weeklong trek.
“We are thrilled to be chosen as a pass-through town for this amazing statewide event,” said Amanda Zwanziger, Indianola Chamber of Commerce President & CEO. “RAGBRAI presents a wonderful opportunity for Indianola to showcase the beauty of our city, the transformation that the Indianola Downtown has undergone and welcome people from all over Iowa, the country and even the world. We are excited to see our streets filled with cyclists and spectators, and we can’t wait to create these memorable moments as participants Experience Indianola.”
Planning efforts in Indianola are already well underway, led by a committee of key City staff, community partners and business owners. With the influx of visitors expected to make their way through the city, local businesses are poised to see a surge in customers. Furthermore, beyond the economic benefits, being a RAGBRAI LI pass-through town also offers Indianola a chance to create lasting impressions and foster a sense of community pride.
“Events like RAGBRAI LI bring in a diverse range of people who are eager to explore what Indianola has to offer,” said City of Indianola Chief of Culture & Recreation Doug Bylund. “From our scenic trails to our charming local businesses, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy. We hope that all who experience Indianola for RAGBRAI leave with fond memories and a desire to return soon in the future.”
To provide up-to-date information and resources related to RAGBRAI’s stop in Indianola, a dedicated landing page – ExperienceIndianola.com/RAGBRAI – has been developed as a centralized hub. In the coming weeks, the website will feature rider and resident information, news and announcements, vendor applications, volunteer opportunities and more. Residents and participants are encouraged to stay connected and informed through the Experience Indianola website and its official social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
