The Indianola Fire Department, with assistance from the Norwalk Fire Department, responded to a structure fire at 202 S. P Street in Indianola at approximately 11:22 a.m. today, Friday, March 28.
A passerby reported the fire, and upon arrival, crews encountered significant fire and smoke conditions, with heavy fire coming from the rear of the residence. Firefighters quickly worked to contain the blaze and successfully rescued two dogs from the residence. The animals were transported to a local veterinary clinic for evaluation and treatment.
Fortunately, no occupants were home at the time of the fire, and no firefighter injuries or fatalities were reported. Due to extensive fire and smoke damage, the home is currently uninhabitable, and the occupants have been temporarily relocated to a hotel.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
