Over the next few months, the City of Indianola’s Water Resource Recovery Department is hitting the streets to conduct essential jetting and televising operations of our sanitary sewer lines. This work is intended to clean and identify areas of the sewer system in need of long-term maintenance and provide a digital record of the City’s entire sanitary sewer system. Check the map below to see if crews will be in your neighborhood in the near future.
This work will not cause any disruptions in service to your residence or business. High-pressure water will be used in cleaning the sanitary sewer lines, which can cause a slight increase in your line pressure. The increased pressure should be relieved through the vent pipe in your home or business. Each home and business are required to have a properly working vent pipe. Undersized, partially plugged, or poorly located sewer vent pipes can cause problems – such as sewer gas smells or bubbling out of the drains and toilets during the cleaning process. If you experience odor during the cleaning process, put a small amount of water in all sinks, tubs and floor drains. This will seal your system and stop odors from entering your home or business. If this happens to you, it may be a good idea to have your vent pipe checked by a licensed plumber to make sure it is properly sized, located and in good working condition.
We appreciate the community’s cooperation and patience during the cleaning and televising process. To learn more about the Water Resource Recovery Department, please visit the Water Resource Recovery Department website.
