[ARCHIVED] Indianola City Council Meets Sept. 16

UPDATE (Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2023): The Indianola City Council met for a regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 16, followed by a joint meeting with the Indianola Wellness Campus Board of Trustees. The meetings can be viewed at the City's YouTube channel.

Indianola Mayor Stephanie Erickson and council members kicked off the regular meeting by presenting a $25,000 check to the Des Moines Metro Opera in partnership with Simpson College. This generous donation, sourced from hotel/motel taxes, will support the Blank Theatre Study with a facility analysis, identifying opportunities for DMMO and bringing even more benefits to the community and visitors.Indianola City Council presents a $25,000 check to the Des Moines Metro Opera on Sept. 16, 2024.

Additionally, Mayor Erickson recognized Indianola Police Chief Brian Sher, who is celebrating 30 years of service to Indianola. 

"Your work has gone beyond just enforcing the law," Mayor Erickson said. "It has been about building trust, fostering relationships and ensuring that every member of this community feels seen, heard and protected."

Among the items the Council approved during the regular meeting were:

  • Payment Applications for various street, storm water, and sewer utility projects
  • An ordinance adding regulations for the keeping of urban chickens within city limits
  • A resolution amending the Fee Schedule to add Chicken Permit Fees
  • A resolution awarding a contract to TK Concrete, Inc. for the North N Street Storm Sewer Repairs project
  • A resolution awarding a contract to Sternquist Construction for the West Clinton Avenue Reconstruction Project

During the joint meeting, the Council met and IWC Board of Trustees received a report regarding the campus from Power Wellness. The Council directed the Board and staff to review the study in detail and bring recommendations back to the council in the weeks ahead.

The next Indianola City Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7. It is open to the public and will be held in the Council Chambers at Indianola City Hall, located at 110 N 1st Street, Indianola, IA 50125. It will also be available via livestream through the City of Indianola's YouTube channel

The meeting agenda will be published on the City's website the Thursday prior to the scheduled Council meeting.
