The Indianola Police Department and the Indianola Fire Department have both been awarded Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grants to enhance their services and equipment.

The Indianola Police Department received a $30,000 grant to purchase additional in-car camera systems and replace outdated, non-functioning equipment. These new systems, expected to be operational by the end of the year, will strengthen the department's efficiency by providing real-time data and video footage, ultimately contributing to a safer and more secure environment.

“The Indianola Police Department is honored to be a recipient of a Prairie Meadows grant,” said Indianola Police Chief Brian Sher. “Their generosity in supporting multiple organizations positively impacts countless individuals every day. This funding will help reduce our operational costs and provide essential equipment that benefits our officers and the community.”

The Indianola Fire Department was awarded $27,602.79 to purchase a new utility task vehicle (UTV). The UTV will be used for wildland fires and as a medical unit for special events or isolated rescues where ambulances cannot reach.

“The Indianola Fire Department is grateful for the support from Prairie Meadows,” said Indianola Fire Chief Aaron Hurt. “This UTV will significantly elevate our capabilities in responding to emergencies in challenging terrains and during special events, ultimately improving the safety and well-being of our community.”

According to its website, Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grants fund small-to-medium sized projects with grants ranging from $100 to $99,999. These grants support qualified organizations seeking to improve the lives of those in their communities.

To date, Prairie Meadows has provided more than $2.3 billion through taxes and charitable giving to promote economic development, agriculture, jobs and tourism.

“At Prairie Meadows, we are dedicated to enriching the lives of Iowans,” said Julie Stewart, senior vice president of business development at Prairie Meadows. “We are proud to invest in the Indianola Police Department’s in-car camera systems and the Indianola Fire Department’s new UTV. It’s an honor to support programs that make our communities stronger.”
