Due to severe winter weather forecasted and deteriorating conditions, all non-emergency offices and programming for the City of Indianola will be closed on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. This includes the Indianola Public Library, Indianola Parks & Recreation (Indianola Activity Center) and the Indianola Wellness Campus.

Regular hours will resume Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Should there be any further updates or changes, the City will promptly share them.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for central and southern Iowa, which includes Indianola, from 3 p.m. Monday, January 8 until 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 9. The National Weather Service - Des Moines predicts total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches and winds gusting as high as 40 mph by Tuesday afternoon, resulting in a period of blowing and drifting snow.

Due to 2 or more inches predicted by the National Weather Service, the Indianola Police Department has implemented a Snow Ordinance for Indianola. City Ordinance 69.10 prohibits parking on any public street or alley. This ordinance remains in effect for 48 hours after the snow has stopped falling or until the streets or alleys are clear. When you see a snowplow, please give crews extra space to work. Once the streets are cleared and after the snow has fallen, you may resume parking in streets or alleys.

If you need to travel during the storm, please be cautious when driving and give yourself plenty of stopping distance. Patchy, blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, and the hazardous conditions will impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.
